
Britney Spears was arrested by California Highway Patrol on Wednesday evening (March 4) around 9 p.m. on charges of suspected driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Spears was the solo occupant of the black BMW 430i that was spotted driving erratically by CHP, and she "showed signs of impairment and submitted to a series of field sobriety tests," after being pulled over. Chemical test results are still pending. The 44-year-old singer was booked around 3 a.m. Thursday and released after 6 a.m. on a cite and release basis, according to Ventura County Sheriff's Office records. Spears must appear in Ventura County Superior Court on May 4.

Her representative said: "This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time." The rep went on to share that "Her boys are going to be spending time with her," while noting that "Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being." Following her arrest, Spears' deactivated her Instagram page with 44 million followers.
