Lola Young Opens Up About Addiction And Her Onstage Collapse

Lola Young discussed her cocaine dependency and mental health struggles in a new Rolling Stone cover story published Wednesday (March 11), revealing details about her onstage collapse at All Things Go festival last year. "I chose to hurt myself and self-sabotage, and I also chose to get onstage and perform," Young said about managing her addiction and schizoaffective disorder while she was on the road promoting her Billboard Hot 100 hit "Messy." The New York Times reported the British songwriter entered treatment facilities in November 2024 and summer 2025 after a relapse. Following her public collapse, the 25-year-old spent two months in "lockdown" treatment without her phone and now attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Young thanked fellow artists including Elton John, Katy Perry, Charli XCX, Kesha, and Lady Gaga for their support during her ordeal, saying "That made me feel safer." She returned to perform at the Grammys in February, winning Best Pop Solo performance for "Messy."
