Oliver "Power" Grant, the man who helped build Wu-Tang Clan's music and business empire, has died at age 52 from unknown causes. Hip-hop site Okayplayer first confirmed his death on social media on Wednesday (Feb. 25). Grant grew up in Staten Island's Park Hill projects with future Wu-Tang members and provided financing for their 1992 debut single, "Protect Ya Neck." "I think I came with most of the money," Grant said in 2011. "I was more the financial guy, and Ghost and RZA were the guys that had the musical talent." He executive-produced their landmark 1993 album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), and founded Wu Wear clothing line, which grossed $25 million annually at its peak. Method Man posted a tribute to Grant on Instagram: "Paradise my Brother safe Travels!! Bruh I am not ok." Wu-Tang Clan's official account shared a classic photo of Grant and captioned the post, "Rest in Power, Power. ???" Marcus Callender recently portrayed Grant in Hulu's hit series, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, while the hip-hop collective received their first nomination for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this week.
