Questlove Reveals That A Posthumous D'Angelo Album Is In The Works

Questlove, drummer for The Roots and longtime D'Angelo collaborator, has confirmed that a posthumous album from the late R&B singer is forthcoming. While making an appearance on the red carpet before the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Questlove was asked if there were any unreleased tracks in D'Angelo's vault. "You'll see soon," he responded, while adding that the unheard material is "always the sound of yesterday, but for the future. This record is no different." D'Angelo's unreleased project includes tracks reportedly developed with collaborators like Raphael Saadiq, who back in 2024 teased that one of the songs they were working on was an old track from their short-lived group with A Tribe Called Quest's Q-Tip. "I think it's going to be a record on D'Angelo's new album when it comes out, a record that we all did together," Saadiq said at the time. D'Angelo died from pancreatic cancer on October 14 at the age of 51.
