BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Human remains discovered at a dig site in Bloomington in late March have finally been identified.
The Monroe County Coroner's Office confirmed that dental records matched the remains to John E. Baker Jr., 40, of Bloomington.
According to authorities, Baker was reported missing in 2022. He was last seen walking into the woods near Meadows Hospital. A search was conducted for Baker, but "due to the thickness of the woods and tree lines, he was never found," the coroner explained.
The Monroe County Coroner's Office determined Baker committed suicide after walking into the woods. His remains lay undiscovered until March 26, when a working crew clearing out land for a housing addition in the 1000 block of Acuff Road stumbled upon what was left of him.
A forensic anthropology team assisted in the recovery and identification of Baker's remains.
