Bloomington man arrested after allegedly driving around Monroe County, waving gun in air

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A Bloomington man has been preliminarily charged with intimidation and neglect after he reportedly drove around and pointed a gun at bystanders with three juveniles in the vehicle.




According to an update from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, 48-year-old Billy Jo Weaver was arrested on Thursday morning on four counts of intimidation, each a Level 5 felony, and one count of neglect of a dependent, a Level 6 felony.

At 11:50 a.m. on April 30, deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office responded to a call in the 8900 block of West Reeves Road. The caller reportedly told deputies that a silver hatchback vehicle was driving around with four occupants. An individual inside the vehicle was reportedly waving a gun and pointing it at bystanders.




Later that day, deputies were called to another incident that reportedly involved the same vehicle. An individual reportedly was waving a gun at a pedestrian at a credit union on Jonathan Drive. The Bloomington City Police Department also reported a similar incident occurring at a home improvement store on Gates Drive.








As the day continued, law enforcement agencies were "actively attempting to locate the vehicle." During the search, the office said that additional calls came through about the same vehicle, claiming that an individual was waving a firearm at West 3rd Street and Patterson Drive.




The office said that a deputy with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office eventually located the vehicle around 1:45 p.m. while it passed the Bloomington City Police Department. A traffic stop was conducted in the area of West 3rd Street and Cory Lane. All four occupants, including Weaver, were detained at the time and a black Glock-branded CO2 powered handgun was reportedly located.
