Caitlin Clark set to return from injury, Fever waive Aari McDonald

INDIANAPOLIS - She's back!




The Indiana Fever confirmed on Friday that star point guard Caitlin Clark is set to return to play after recovering from an injured quad. The team announced the news in a post on X.




"She's back," the post read, accompanied by a fire emoji.

According to the team, Clark is set to return to action on Saturday, June 14, against the New York Liberty. The home game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse is set to tip off at 3 p.m.




Clark, last year's WNBA Rookie of the Year, has missed five games after injuring herself in a game against the Liberty on May 24. The Fever went 2-3 with her out of the lineup as she heals from a lower leg injury.




Voted to the All-WNBA First Team last season, this year Clark is averaging 19 points, 9.3 assists, 6 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game for the Fever.




It is unclear yet if Clark will start in Saturday's game against the Liberty or if she will ramp back up her minutes load over several games.

McDonald waived

The Fever also announced Friday afternoon that the team is waiving guard Aari McDonald, who was signed June 1 in the wake of Clark's injury via the WNBA's emergency hardship exception.




Officials said that the team was forced to waive McDonald pursuant to league rules, which state a player must be waived once the team returns to its game-eligible 10 person roster. With Clark returning from injury, the team was required to drop their latest signing.




McDonald quickly became a fan-favorite among Fever faithfuls by helping to secure wins against the Chicago Sky and Washington Mystics during Clark's absence.




In her three games as a member of the team, McDonald averaged 11 points, 3 assists and 2 steals per game.
