Happy Race Day weekend, central Indiana! While it will be cooler than normal overall, being outside for any festivities should be good. An area of high pressure dominates overhead and will guide the rain chances away from us.
Saturday started off with lows in the 40s and the same will occur for Race Day morning Sunday. Expect highs Saturday around 70°. One caveat is the cloud cover that will move in Saturday afternoon. Depending on how quickly we fill our skies again with clouds, many hometowns may stay in the upper 60s. Otherwise, not a bad day at all for the 500 Festival Parade in downtown Indianapolis or Legends Day at IMS.
When it comes to our rain chances on Sunday, they still exist. However, that will be well south of Indianapolis and central Indiana. It's possible a sprinkle or two could reach the ground around here. Otherwise, any rain overhead will evaporate before it hits the surface (virga).
If Indianapolis stays in the 60s on Race Day, it will be the coolest in 12 years (2013 Indy 500: 68° high). It won't be the coolest of all time, that belongs to 1992!
Memorial Day looks dry and the nicest day of the weekend. Highs in the lower 70s with rain holding off until very late. Most of the rain, however, will be here Tuesday and Wednesday as our pattern shifts. Temperatures look to moderate back closer to normal in the mid-to-upper 70s by late next workweek to close out May!
