LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A woman has been pronounced dead after she was reportedly hit by a vehicle in Lafayette on Monday morning.
According to a news release from the Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the area of South Street and Creasy Lane in Lafayette at around 7:15 a.m. on Monday.
The pedestrian, whom the office identified as a woman believed to be in her 40s, was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
"The Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office is working to confirm legal positive identification of the decedent," the release said. "...Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the family, and we hope they are respected during such a difficult time."
The Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office said the woman's preliminary cause of death was caused by multiple blunt force injuries. The toxicology reports are pending, as the preliminary manner of death was also ruled an accident.
This is an ongoing investigation by the Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office and the Lafayette Police Department.
