Court docs: Muncie man caught on camera harming cat

MUNCIE, Ind. -- A Muncie man was arrested after he allegedly harmed multiple cats, including one specific instance that was captured on camera.

According to court documents from the Muncie Police Department filed in Delaware County, 37-year-old Brandon Doolittle has been preliminarily charged with one count of cruelty to an animal, a Level 6 felony. Doolittle was arrested on Monday.

Officers with the department were called to a reported animal problem at a local restaurant early Saturday morning. The court documents stated that a woman told officers a video was taken on a Ring camera of a family member, later identified as Doolittle, harming a cat.

The video, reportedly taken from a home in northwest Muncie, allegedly shows Doolittle grabbing a yellow/orange cat named Sebastian under a piece of furniture. The court documents allege that Doolittle punched the cat with his hand and then held the cat in both of his hands.

In the video, Doolittle's body is obstructing the view on the camera when a "loud snap is heard" while Doolittle reportedly moves his right shoulder and hand. The documents then state that Doolittle places Sebastian in a trash can.

Later, the woman told police that Sebastian did not die at that point, alleging that Doolittle shot the cat with a pellet gun a few days later. The woman said that the incident reportedly occurred in early August, and Doolittle asked her to delete the camera footage.

The woman also told police about other alleged instances of violence that Doolittle was involved in with animals. The documents state that Doolittle reportedly shot another cat in May.

"When asked about why (Doolittle) harmed the animals, (the woman) stated that he would often laugh about harming them and would show her the videos of the acts," the documents said. "She stated she believed he did this to 'haunt her.'"

In an interview that Doolittle reportedly had with law enforcement, the documents said that when he was told that the interview was about the alleged video footage of him slapping or striking a cat, he requested a lawyer.
