Crash forces temporary closure of Interstate 70 westbound in Wayne County

WAYNE COUNTY, Ind. - A crash forced officials to temporarily close a portion of Interstate 70 in Wayne County Monday night.
According to a media notification from the Indiana Department of Transportation, the crash occurred at mile marker 150.8 on I-70 westbound sometime before 11:42 p.m. INDOT's notification did not specify what caused the crash or how many people, if any, were injured in it.
As of midnight Tuesday, INDOT had not specified how long I-70 is expected to be closed be closed.
INDOT has indicated that the crash involved an overturned semi. The agency also confirmed that at least one person was entrapped in one of the vehicles involved in the crash.
INDOT also reported that diesel fuel was spilled during Monday's crash, though it is currently unclear how much of it spilled or if a hazmat team will need to respond to the area to assist first responders with the spill.
Numerous serious crashes have occurred on I-70 in Wayne County in recent months. In February, a driver was killed in a crash on I-70 eastbound near mile marker 149.
Another driver was killed in a crash on I-70 eastbound in near Centerville in March.
Two weeks ago, a crash forced officials to close I-70 at mile marker 156 for nearly three hours.
During a crash at mile marker 145 on I-70 westbound in March, one truck spilled cans of Canada Dry all over the roadway.
INDOT is working to improve I-70 in Wayne County. The agency's Revive I-70 project, which is currently in progress, is designed to improve the 20-plus miles of interstate roadway that stretches from Cambridge City to the Ohio border.
According to INDOT's website, the Revive I-70 project is not expected to be completed until 2029 or later.
As of this article's publication, no additional information on Monday's crash had been made available.
