DANVILLE, Ind. - A Danville man faces 40 years in prison after being accused of molesting two young children.
Shawn Patrick, 31, was charged in Hendricks County Superior Court on May 22 with two counts of child molesting as a Level 1 felony. He also faces four additional counts of child molesting as a Level 4 felony.
According to court documents, allegations against Patrick first came to light on May 18 after two young children told their mother Patrick had molested them.
Court documents reveal that while one of the children recounted the molestation, the younger victim began shouting that they weren't supposed to be talking about it and that Patrick told them not to tell.
Patrick went missing in the aftermath of the allegations and only made contact with police officers via a phone call on May 18. Investigators said Patrick advised that he wanted to "take some time" to speak with an attorney before he agreed to talk in person with detectives.
He called the allegations "terrifying and heartbreaking."
According to court documents, Patrick did not reach back out to police to set up an interview. On May 22, a warrant was issued for his arrest and he was taken into custody that same day.
In Indiana, a Level 1 felony carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
