Death investigation launched after body found in water on Indy's north side

INDIANAPOLIS -- A death investigation is underway after a person was found unresponsive in a body of water on the north side of Indianapolis Wednesday afternoon.




Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched around 1:01 p.m. to the 8700 block of Purdue Road to conduct a water recovery. The run was later upgraded to a death investigation after IMPD said officers arrived and located a deceased individual in the water.




The Pike Township Fire Department also responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. The Marion County Coroner's Office will determine the exact cause of death at a later time.
