Deputies searching for suspect after reported assault at Karst Farm Greenway
MONROE COUNTY, Ind. -- Authorities are searching for a suspect after an assault was reported on a trail at the Karst Farm Greenway in Bloomington.
Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office were called on Aug. 29 around 11:51 a.m., after a woman reported that an unknown male had reportedly assaulted her. When deputies arrived, they spoke with the victim, who described the suspect as a white male who was wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts.
Deputies added that the suspect was likely in his mid to late 20s and had dark, curly hair "styled in a mullet."
The victim went on to explain that she had encountered the male suspect multiple times on the trail before the alleged assault took place. She recalled observing him stretching at one point as she passed him. As she began to walk away, MCSO said the suspect reportedly approached and pulled her shirt over her head. The woman screamed, prompting the suspect to run away from the scene before deputies could arrive.
Deputies and a drone team searched the area for over an hour but could not locate the suspect. MCSO said deputies notified the Monroe County Community School Corporation and Grandview Elementary staff as they "increased exterior monitoring to enhance security around the school and nearby trail."
The investigation into the incident remains active. Anyone with information related to the suspect is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Nathan Peach at npeach@co.monroe.in.us or 911.
