Developer pitches water/adventure park for Hamilton County

SHERIDAN, Ind. - A ziplining, water-splashing adventure is planned for northern Hamilton County.

The pitch? A 125-acre water and activity park called Skylake Adventure Park.

The developers have already earmarked an undeveloped parcel of land along U.S. 31 near Sheridan to construct the adventure park. Park guests would enter off Dunbar Road and E. 216th and find an oasis of adventure.

The centerpiece of Skylake Adventure Park would be a six-acre man-made lake partially surrounded by white sand beaches. An inflatable jungle gym of obstacle courses, slides and a 40-foot tower would float over the surface of the lake and create an amusement park bobbing on the waves.

The developers promised the man-made lake would be "entirely natural" with no chlorine or concrete. A 6,000 square foot splash pad is also planned.

But the water-based recreation is only part of the fun. Skylake Adventure Park would also feature a 60-foot-high, 400-foot-tall tubing hill for "thrills year-around." A mini-golf course is also planned along with another main attraction that puts the "Sky" in "Skylake:" A 20-acre treetop course called the "Adventure Zone."

The Adventure Zone would feature a "four-season aerial skyscraper" that would let guests "walk, swing, climb, and repel among the trees."

The park would also feature a Central Hub that would offer buildings, party rooms, shelters and cabanas available to rent for birthdays, parties and corporate events.

Developers presented the grand plans for Skylake Adventure Park to the Sheridan Plan Commission on Thursday night. The commission responded favorably by voting 5-2 to recommend that the town council rezone the property to allow for the development of the waterpark.

According to the Indiana Business Journal, the developers are poised to break ground in June if the town council gives the go-ahead for the project.

The Sheridan Town Council's next meeting is set for May 6.
