Jackson Dean released "Make a Liar" to country radio on November 8 through Big Machine, with an official add date of January 20. The single represents a creative departure for the 25-year-old singer, incorporating old-school R&B and soul influences into his traditional country sound. Producer Luke Dick and songwriter Randy Montana developed the track's signature bassline and concept around the payoff line, "Make a liar outta me." The song features a protagonist repeatedly refusing romantic advances before reversing course. "She took the dare," Dean explained. "It's all about daring somebody." Dick recorded the track last spring at Southern Ground Studios in Nashville with musicians including Rob McNelley, Bryan Sutton, Craig Young, and Jerry Roe. The sparse production emphasizes intimacy over typical country arrangements. "It's not when to play, but where not to play," Dean noted about the arrangement's intentional space.
