Payton Smith Explores the Tension of Three Unspoken Words In New Single "See How It Sounds"

Breakthrough country artist Payton Smith captures the vulnerable thrill of unspoken feelings on his new single, "See How It Sounds," out now. Centered around the quiet tension of two people circling around three life-changing words, the track bottles the nerves, anticipation, and honesty of love waiting to be said.

Written by Payton Smith alongside Austin Goodloe and Ava Suppelsa, the song pairs intimate lyricism with Smith's signature guitar work, allowing the emotion to build naturally into a memorable instrumental outro.

"'See How It Sounds' is about that moment when the words are right there, but nobody's said them yet," says Payton. "It's two people dancing around 'I love you,' waiting to see who's gonna go first. It's simple, a little nervous, and honest in the best way. The guitar says what the words can't in the outro. Sometimes you just have to let 'I love you' fly... just to see how it sounds."

Louisiana native and self-taught guitarist Payton Smith first broke out in 2019, quickly amassing more than 50 million streams on his debut single, "Like I Knew You Would." The former CMT Listen Up artist has earned major playlist support from Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and TIDAL, while MusicRow named him a Next Big Thing. Following his 2022 signing with Combustion Masters, Smith released "Missed The Boat" and his debut album, What Colors Your Wild, continuing to build momentum with standout playlist placements and a growing fanbase.

No stranger to major stages, Smith has supported runs with Brantley Gilbert, ZZ Top, Lee Brice, Dylan Scott, Lily Rose, and Priscilla Block, while also sharing stages with Jordan Davis, Chris Young, and Mitchell Tenpenny.

With "See How It Sounds," Smith once again turns a quiet, deeply relatable moment into something lasting, blending honesty and guitar-driven warmth into a track that lingers long after the final note.
