Docs: 3 juveniles, 18-year-old found with firearm, baseball bat after armed carjacking

INDIANAPOLIS -- Police have arrested three juveniles and an 18-year-old for their alleged involvement in an armed carjacking on Indy's near southwest side Tuesday morning.
An armed robbery investigation was launched when officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded around 9:45 a.m. to the 2200 block of Wilkins Street in response to a reported armed carjacking.
While officers were en route, dispatch informed them that the victim described the suspects as four males wearing facemasks. According to court documents, the victim said he was working on his red 2009 Ford F-150 pickup truck when the suspects approached and surrounded him. The victim said one of the suspects was armed with a "black pistol" and that another was armed with a baseball bat.
One of the suspects allegedly pointed the firearm at the victim and demanded that he give them his keys. The victim told police that he knew the vehicle would not start, so he gave them his keys and went back inside his home, court documents said.
As the victim predicted, the suspects were unable to get the victim's car to start and ventured westbound on Wilkins Street before officers could arrive. One of the responding officers reportedly spotted a group of young males matching the suspects' provided description walking southbound on Pershing Avenue.
Court documents show that neighborhood witnesses helped detectives track the suspects to the area of Ray Street and Sheffield Avenue.
After officers created a perimeter in collaboration with a K9 unit, the suspects fled on foot and began jumping fences. IMPD said the suspects were quickly caught and detained by officers as detectives recovered a firearm and a face mask.
As part of their investigation, detectives reviewed a photograph captured by a Real Time Crime Center that appeared to show four suspects walking in the area. One of them was seen allegedly carrying a baseball bat, and another appeared "to conceal a firearm in his pants," court documents said.
Detectives seized a 10mm handgun, one live 9mm round and a metal baseball bat while searching the area following the brief pursuit.
A few minutes before the armed carjacking was initially reported, dispatch advised that a caller reported seeing four males matching the suspects' description near a silver SUV with a broken window that was reported stolen from Wisconsin. The vehicle was recovered and towed.
Officers placed the suspects under arrest and preliminarily charged them with Armed Robbery (Level 3 Felony) and Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor). IMPD identified the 18-year-old as Jack Carcamo.
Online court records indicate Carcamo is scheduled to appear in Marion Superior Court 30 on July 8 for an initial hearing.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make final charging decisions.
