Docs: Beech Grove woman stuffed dead dog in tote with chemicals

INDIANAPOLIS - A dog was found dead in a tote full of chemicals on Monday.

According to court documents, police were originally called to the 200 block of South 6th Avenue in Beech Grove for an animal investigation.

The caller claimed that someone had placed a dead dog in a tote full of chemicals and left it at her work.

Police arrived and spoke with Kiley Dodd. She told police that she had gotten out of work around 7:30 p.m. and found a blue tote near her vehicle. When she opened it, she found her dog dead inside.

Police found the tote with a smell coming from it. When officers opened the tote, they located what appeared to be a dead animal wrapped in blankets. The dog was covered in "some type of chemical and maggots," according to police reporting on the incident.

Court documents indicate that Dodd claimed to have had a disagreement with the person she believed had left her dog in the tote. When police asked Dodd why the other person would do that, she had "no explanation or reason."

Dodd told police that, when she found the tote, there was a note with "For Kiley, here's your dog" written on it. She admitted to the police that she had since lost the note.

Police reached out to the person whom Dodd accused, and that person told police that they had not seen Dodd or the dog since March.

Court documents indicated that, when police returned to speak with Dodd, they made it known to her that they knew she had lied to them about what happened.

Dodd then changed her story, saying her dog had just died and she didn't know what to do.

She told police she was not staying in the apartment she had been keeping her dog in before its death. She indicated that she would periodically return to check on the dog, but was not staying there every night.

Dodd admitted to the police that she returned to the apartment on Sept. 26 to find her dog dead. She then wrapped it with a blanket and placed it in a tote, planning to bury the dog.

Dodd has been arrested and charged with cruelty to an animal, a Class A Misdemeanor. Animal control personnel ultimately took possession of the dead dog during police's investigation.

According to court docs, Dodd acted alone and no one else knew about the condition of the animals.

Online court records show Dodd was charged and is set to appear in court on Monday. Her bond was set at $150, which public records indicate she posted.
