Docs: Delaware County parents arrested after 9-year-old tested positive for cannabis
DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. -- A mother and father have been arrested after their 9-year-old girl tested positive for cannabis.
According to court documents filed on Tuesday in Delaware County, Tyler Lindsey and Megan Wilson were both charged with one count of neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury, a Level 5 felony, as well as a misdemeanor drug charge.
On March 19, a deputy with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office was called to a local hospital on a call of a potential child abuse/neglect case. When the deputy arrived at the hospital, they found that a 9-year-old patient had tested positive for cannabis after she was brought to the emergency room "on account of her lethargic state."
In an interview, Wilson, the girl's mother, said that the girl woke up to go to school and was "acting normal." Later that day, Wilson picked the child up from school after she reportedly had a headache and a rash on her left arm.
After taking a nap, the child was reportedly "extremely groggy and lethargic" when she woke up. This caused Wilson to take her to a local hospital. The girl was eventually transported to an Indianapolis children's hospital after she was reported in "critical but stable" condition.
Wilson said during her interview that there were THC cartridges in the home, along with edible THC gummies. However, Wilson said she "found it unlikely" the child ingested cannabis from their home, and said the child may have been given something at school.
Lindsey told police that his cartridges were "almost hidden underneath his side of his bed" something that he believes the child would not have gotten into. Lindsey also said that there were edibles in his room but he kept them hidden in a drawer.
When police searched the home, they reportedly found cartridges as well as edibles inside.
Lindsey and Wilson's initial hearing is scheduled for July 10, according to court documents.
