Docs: Greencastle man charged after threatening law enforcement, judges on social media
GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- A Greencastle man allegedly threatened Putnam County government officials, including judges and officials with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, on social media.
According to court documents filed earlier this month, 40-year-old Joushua Breedlove was charged with five counts of intimidation. One of the counts was a Level 5 felony, since it was centered on a judge, and the other four were Level 6 felonies.
Earlier this month, deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office began investigating threats reportedly made by Breedlove against specific government officials on social media.
The documents said that Breedlove was previously known for posting social media comments about the sheriff's office, however, officials said the comments had recently turned to threats of harm against officials.
"In the past, his posts appeared only critical of the government, likely expressing his First Amendment rights," the documents said. "Recently, his posts have escalated by targeting specific individuals and making threats of violence."
In the court documents, the office cited multiple social media posts and comments that Breedlove allegedly made. In one case, Breedlove commented on a Putnam County Sheriff's Office Facebook post that he had not "met a single cop in Putnam County that hasn't warranted me beating their f------ a-- under the ground."
Other posts and comments centered around specific individuals. The court documents said that Breedlove threatened to "end" a local judge's "career and life." He also threatened to "nuke" other officials "until (their) families feel it."
According to the court documents, Breedlove's bond was set at $25,000 cash only. Breedlove's pretrial conference is scheduled for June 26.
