Docs: Greenfield man offered 12-year-old money for sex at senior community

GREENFIELD, Ind. - A 74-year-old Greenfield man has been arrested after police say he offered a 12-year-old child money to have sex with him at a senior living community.
Oscrow "Ozzie" Spears was arrested last week after being charged in Hancock County Court with Level 5 felony child solicitation. The charge stems from an incident that occurred on Father's Day at Spears's assisted living facility in Greenfield.
Greenfield police were notified in late July that a DCS report had been filed regarding potential sexual misconduct with a minor. The report stated that a father and child were visiting a relative on June 15 when an unknown resident approached the child.
The child said she was in the community room of the complex when a man, later identified as Spears, came in and offered her $100 to come with him to his room.
The victim said Spears wanted her "to have 'the bang' with him," later spelling out the word sex to investigators.
The DCS filing reportedly said that the child told her father, who then told the property manager about the situation. However, the concerns were not reported to police because "Ozzie has solicited sex from other residents" and "there is no indication Ozzie touched the child."
Investigators soon spoke with the child's father, who said he went up to Spears's room to confront him after his daughter explained what happened. The dad said he later tracked down Spears in the parking lot and confronted him there.
Spears was interviewed by DCS and police officials on Aug. 20. Court documents detail how Spears was "highly intoxicated" during the interview and slurring his words.
The 74-year-old reportedly denied having solicited a juvenile on Father's Day, but did admit that in the past he had made sexual offers to other females at the facility "as a joke."
On Sept. 24, investigators had the victim look at a photo array of potential suspects. The child reportedly chose Spears as the suspect out of a lineup of eight people. On Sept. 26, Spears was officially charged with felony child solicitation in Hancock Superior Court 1.
Online court records show Spears made an initial appearance last Wednesday, during which bond was set at $5,000 and a no-contact order was issued. If convicted of a level 5 felony, Spears could be sentenced to up to six years in prison.
