Docs: Man arrested after he drugged, raped woman

HARTFORD CITY, Ind. - An Eaton man was arrested after he allegedly drugged and raped a woman in Hartford City.




Michael J. Waymire, 51, was charged with the following:

• Rape when victim is unaware of the defendants actions, a Level 3 Felony





• Strangulation, a Level 6 Felony





• Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury, Misdemeanor

Officers were conducting a standby near the 121 block of W 5 St. in Hartford City on April 13, when a woman left a home and told authorities that she had been raped. Police stated the woman was too intoxicated to speak, but would later inform her to go to the hospital for a sexual assault examination.




Upon completion of the exam on April 14, the hospital officials said that it appeared the victim had signs of strangulation, bruising around her neck and chest, as well as scratches down her back and her knees.








According to court documents, the victim would later tell the Hartford City Police Department that she was having drinks when Waymire allegedly handed her a drink that she believed was 'laced' with something. She reportedly began to feel drowsy, sensing something was wrong she grabbed her keys and phone. The victim said that the last thing she remembers is her phone being knocked out of her hand.




When the victim woke up the next day, she claimed that her neck, chest, arms, and private area were all in pain. Further, she told authorities that she did not consent to sexual contact with Waymire. She also said that she did not have on the same clothes the next morning.








On April 17, police received information from hospital officials that drugs were found in the victims system. The drugs found are typically used as sleeping aids to treat insomnia. The side effects can be severe drowsiness, confusion, and slurred speech.




Waymire has maintained that any sexual contact between him and the woman was consensual, however police interviews indicate that his story changed multiple times.
