BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A 50-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly attacked an individual with his cane at a gas station in Bloomington.
Christopher Matlock, 50, was charged with the following:
- Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 Felony
- Battery Against a Public Safety Official, a Level 6 Felony
- Theft, a Misdemeanor
Officers with the Bloomington Police Department were patrolling an area gas station at the 2600 block of East 3rd Street on Saturday at approximately 4:32 a.m. and witnessed a disturbance.
According to court documents, while in the parking lot, Matlock struck a truck driver with his cane after the driver offered to give him a ride when he asked. When officers saw the victim they immediately noticed a red eye and a welt that was growing increasingly larger.
Authorities then spoke with the clerk at the convenience store who said that Matlock was "acting strange." Matlock reportedly told the cashier, "They're after me... tell my wife and kids I love them." The suspect then left the shop with a Monster energy drink in hand without paying.
After finding probable cause to arrest Matlock, he then allegedly attacked at least one officer on scene.
This is an active investigation. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
