INDIANAPOLIS - An Indianapolis man was charged after he allegedly attacked a woman who was nine months pregnant on New Years Eve in 2024.
Jacquez Cal, 31, was charged with the following:
- Domestic Battery with Bodily Injury to Pregnant Woman, a Level 5 Felony
- Strangulation to Pregnant Victim, a Level 5 Felony
- Domestic Battery Committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 Felony
- Interference with Reporting of a Crime, a Misdemeanor
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to Braeburn E Drive on Dec. 31, 2024, on a report of a domestic incident between a female and male.
Upon arrival, officers found a visibly distraught woman who was reportedly grasping for air and crying hysterically. The woman was immediately transported to an area hospital for assistance. Cal had already left the scene.
According to court documents, on Jan. 3, 2025, the man called her job at least five times asking if the victim was at work. Due to the coworker believing that the calls were threatening in nature, they did not confirm or deny if the victim was at work. When the victim returned home, he pulled up behind her as she was getting of the car with a small child.
The victim immediately called 911. Several moments later he allegedly began to beat and strangle the woman. Her young son took measures to protect his mom from the attack, according to reports.
Officers said that the victim had redness on her body from the reported attack.
This is an active investigation. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
