Docs: Muncie man arrested after providing drugs that led to April 2024 overdose

MUNCIE, Ind. -- A Muncie man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly sold a person drugs that led to their death in April 2024.




According to court documents filed on Wednesday in Delaware County, 26-year-old D'Andrew Williams has been preliminarily charged with:

• One count of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, a Level 1 felony





• One count of conspiracy to commit dealing in cocaine/narcotic drug, a Level 5 felony

On April 27, 2024, officers with the Muncie Police Department were called to an apartment complex on N. Walnut Street in reference to an overdose. The person, who had reportedly taken a blue M30 pill, was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.








The cause of death for the person who overdosed was acute mixed drug intoxication, according to the court documents, testing positive for fentanyl, along with other substances. The person who overdosed was not identified by police in the court documents.




Over the course of the investigation into the fatal overdose, officers with the department interviewed multiple witnesses to the overdose. One witness reportedly stated that they were the person to contact Williams to set up the drug transaction, texts that investigators obtained.




The day after the overdose, the documents said that Williams reportedly contacted the witness, asking what happened with the drugs. After informing Williams that the person had overdosed, Williams reportedly "sounded frantic."




On Tuesday afternoon, Williams was taken into custody during a traffic stop in the area of S. Burlington Ave. and E. Memorial Dr.
