MUNCIE, Ind. -- A Muncie man reportedly drove a forklift into a Muncie bookstore early Friday morning.
According to court documents recently filed in Delaware County, 34-year-old Grayson Noles was preliminarily charged with burglary, a Level 5 felony, on Friday.
At around 4:47 a.m. on Friday, officers were dispatched to the Books-A-Million in the 3500 block of N. Granville in response to an alarm. When police arrived at the scene, they spoke with a man covered in shards of glass and bleeding from his right hand, later identified as Noles. Noles was reportedly standing next to a forklift.
The documents said that "heavy damage" was observed by officers in the store's front doorway.
After he was detained, Noles reportedly told officers he was in the parking lot with three others. Noles told police that the men reportedly "convinced him to get on the forklift" that was in the parking lot.
The documents said the key was reportedly in the forklift. Noles said the group reportedly told him to drive the forklift into the front doors of the bookstore, something that occurred two or three times.
"When asked why he did it, (Noles) only said he did not know," the documents said.
Officers stated in the documents that Noles reportedly changed his story multiple times regarding the number of group members. Officials said that it started out as two people with Noles but later changed to Noles stating that five people were with him.
The documents said that Noles was transported to the Delaware County Jail. Noles' bond was set in the amount of $5,000.
