MUNCIE, Ind. - A Muncie mom was arrested for neglect after her son saved her life by administering three doses of Narcan during a reported overdose.
Brittney Lee Taylor was charged with the following:
- Neglect of a Dependent, a Level 6 Felony
- Possession or use of Legend Drug, a Class A Misdemeanor
- Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class C Misdemeanor
Officers with the Muncie Police Department were dispatched to the 3000 block of E Tanner Dr. on May 14 at approximately 12:13 p.m. on a report of an overdose.
Upon arrival, officers found Taylor sitting on the toilet and puking into a trash can. After being "convinced" by police to come out of the bathroom, Taylor was transported to Ball Memorial Hospital for treatment.
According to court documents, authorities reached out to the Department of Child Services due to the severity of the situation. The child who administered the Narcan, and the other two children near the scene, were sent to stay with a close relative.
Taylor allegedly asked the officer, "why I could not just take her to rehab." The MPD officer advised, "police do not take offenders to rehab."
When searching Taylor, law enforcement allegedly found three white pills, and two clear straws with black and brown charring.
Taylor was transported to the Delaware County Jail. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
