According to previous reports, officers with the Carmel Police Department responded to a reported shooting in the 1100 block of Golfview Drive on Saturday evening. When they arrived, they found a man who was reportedly shot. The man was later taken to a local hospital with serious bodily injuries, according ot the documents.

On Sunday, officials with the Carmel Police Department said that five juveniles were arrested in relation to the shooting. The fifth juvenile was not identified in the Hamilton County court documents obtained by FOX59/CBS4.

Reported planned THC vape robbery led to shooting

According to the court documents, a family member of the victim said that they were traveling to Carmel from Greenfield to participate in a Facebook Marketplace transaction.

When they arrived in the 1100 block of Golfview Drive, the family member told law enforcement one of the suspects, later identified as Shanley, stood outside an SUV. After an initial greeting, Shanley reportedly produced a firearm, leading to multiple others exiting the SUV.

Another juvenile suspect entered the victim's vehicle and pointed a gun at him. After an escape attempt, a suspect, later identified as Dalen Peden, fired two or three rounds at the victim. The group, which police allege included Dalen Peden and Shanley, as well as Jalen Peden and Hoffman, then fled the scene in the SUV.

Minutes after the reported shooting, the SUV was located traveling on City Center Drive near Rangeline Road. The SUV, which was missing its front right-side lower door trim molding, was reportedly linked to a family member of Shanley.

Investigation into shooting

The court documents said that the victim confirmed that there was a planned transaction in an interview with law enforcement. The victim said that he met an individual on Snapchat to sell "Muha weed pens."

During the transaction, the victim said that he was "ambushed" by four individuals and was shot by one of them. The documents said that he was also robbed of around $1,200 in cash as well as the pens.

On the morning of Aug. 10, investigators with the Carmel Police Department conducted a search of Shanley's home, in which they recovered mobile devices, an empty "Muha Meds box" and $318 in currency. The SUV was also reportedly located at the home.

A family member of Shanley's reportedly told police that Shanley was the "sole driver" of the SUV and that they believed that Hoffman was the passenger of the vehicle at the time. The family member also told law enforcement that Shanley "had been known to associate with Jalen Peden and Dalen Peden.

The family member also provided GPS information to law enforcement, which reportedly showed Shanley traveling to the Pedens' home, driving to the area of 1180 Golfview Drive, being there near the time of the shooting and then driving back to the Pedens' home.

In an interview with Shanley, he reportedly admitted to setting up a meeting to rob the victim after the victim sent Shanley videos of THC vape pens for sale. Shanley also reportedly confirmed that Hoffman and the Pedens participated in the robbery, and that Dalen Peden was the person who shot the victim with a BB gun.

When police spoke with Hoffman, he reportedly admitted to participating in the robbery as well, stating that the incident occurred "very quickly."

Text messages obtained by police reportedly outlined the plans for the robbery. A juvenile witness reportedly told law enforcement that Dalen Peden posted a video on TikTok featuring the vape pens that had reportedly been stolen from the victim; a video that has since been taken down.

On Aug. 10, a search warrant was granted for the Pedens' home. The documents said that police reportedly found four boxes of vape pens as well as "large quantities" of U.S. currency. The Pedens were then taken into custody.

An initial hearing for Shanley, Hoffman, Dalen Peden and Jalen Peden occurred in Hamilton County court on Thursday afternoon. All four are being charged as adults. Court documents did not confirm the four juvenile suspects' exact ages.
