DOJ: 'Predatory' illegal immigrant gets 35 years in prison for sexually abusing Indianapolis girl

INDIANAPOLIS - An immigrant illegally living in Indianapolis has been sentenced to over three decades behind bars after pleading guilty to sexually exploiting a local 15-year-old girl.




Carlos Fredy Granados, 35, was sentenced this week to 35 years in federal prison, followed by a lifetime of supervised release and potential removal from the U.S. This came after he pled guilty to child sexual exploitation, coercion of a minor, and possession of child sex abuse materials.




Court documents detail how, between May and August 2023, Granados sexually exploited and abused a 15-year-old girl. The 35-year-old also reportedly filmed the abuse and saved videos of the victim.




Indianapolis Metropolitan police officers were called to investigate on Oct. 28, 2023, after a witness saw nude images of the victim on Granados's cell phone. Detectives later searched his phone and found 12 videos and 16 images of the victim and Granados during the abuse.




In addition to the photo and video evidence, police also reportedly found sexually explicit text messages between Granados and the victim.




"Granados' crimes are among the most heinous we encounter, and his conviction underscores our commitment to removing the most violent and predatory illegal immigrants from our communities," U.S. District Attorney Tom Wheeler said in a news release.




Granados's 35-year prison sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Richard L. Young. Upon entering his plea deal, the DOJ said Granados acknowledged he would be subject to removal from the United States upon release.
