Driver deliberately slams into juvenile detention center

FRANKLIN - In what officials are calling an "appalling and deliberate act of violence," a Johnson county man drove his truck into the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center in Franklin.

39-year-old Jacob Dohndt rammed his truck into the building's front vestibule around 11:40 a.m. Sunday. Both employees and detainees were on site at the time. None of them were injured in the incident.

"This wasn't just vandalism. This was a targeted, intentional act that put the lives of innocent people - people simply doing their jobs - directly in harm's way," said Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess. "It's very fortunate no one was killed or injured."

Dohndt was detained at the scene. He told officers that he was angry about not being able to see his son, who is detained at the facility, in over a year. Dohndt said he wanted to "send a message to the judges and judicial system."

He faces several charges for this crash, including intimidation and criminal recklessness, and is being held without bond due to prior, unrelated charges.

"We will not tolerate attacks against our staff or our justice system," said Sheriff Burgess. "This was an act of intimidation, plain and simple, and we will pursue justice with the full weight of the law."
