INDIANAPOLIS - Thursday marks the third day of Indianapolis 500 practice.
Drivers are hoping the weather cooperates. Rain and storms delayed or interrupted practice on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tuesday's session started late due to a rain delay and ended a half-hour early because of lightning. Rain on Wednesday pushed the start back by more than an hour. Further rain delays of 54 minutes and 15 minutes interrupted the afternoon sessions.
It meant drivers were on the track for only three hours and 43 minutes of Wednesday's six-hour practice.
Alex Palou topped the speed chart on Wednesday, turning the fastest speed so far at 227.546 mph. Penske teammates and former 500 champs Will Power (225.548 mph) and Josef Newgarden (225.545 mph) finished second and third. Another former winner, Scott Dixon, was fourth (225.092 mph) while Conor Daly was fifth (224.931 mph).
Drivers will return to the track for a lengthy practice session on Thursday. Here's a look at the schedule:
- 10 a.m. Gates open

- 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Indy 500 practice (all cars)
