We are continuing on this STREAK when it comes to below-average temperatures. Friday marked the TENTH consecutive day of below normal temperatures for Indianapolis. It's the coolest weather stretch for this late in August in nearly 40 years, and this streak isn't over yet.
Labor Day weekend looks fantastic and it will be the coolest holiday weekend in six years. Thanks to a building area of high pressure, it will act as the catalyst behind our mild and quiet weather this weekend. Expect more highs in the mid-to-upper 70s (typical for mid-September) with moderating temperatures back near 80° for Labor Day and early next week.
College football is BACK across Indiana. IU plays Saturday afternoon down in Bloomington. Also, for the first time in 15 years, Purdue hosts Ball State in West Lafayette at Noon Saturday. For tailgating festivities, the morning will be chilly. The powerful last August sun will allow temperatures to rebound nicely in the 70s.
Rain holds off for the holiday and doesn't return until at least the middle of next week. This will come in the form of another fall front expected to move through late Wednesday into early Thursday. With high pressure staying put on the west coast, that blocks any cool air from spreading evenly in Canada and the western United States. Instead, that cool air (originating from Hudson Bay) drops in our neck of the woods.
Next week, central Indiana will likely see its first 60s of the season. This will be the coolest air since May around here.
