Edinburgh police: 18-year-old shot in the head after fight breaks out at party

EDINBURGH, Ind. -- An investigation is underway after an 18-year-old was shot in the head in Edinburgh over the weekend.

Officers with the Edinburgh Police Department were called on Saturday around 2:30 a.m. to the 100 block of East Main Cross Street in response to a possible shooting in the area. EPD said officers arrived and found a victim, whom they identified as an 18-year-old male, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

EPD said the shooting victim was transported to Methodist Hospital, where he was released shortly after receiving medical treatment.

Detectives believe the shooting stemmed from a fight that broke out during a party that was being held at a residence in the area. EPD said the victim had attempted to leave the scene as tensions began to escalate. Preliminary information indicates that the 18-year-old was shot while he was driving his car away from the area. No other injuries were reported.

As of this article's publication, police have not detained any suspects.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to the shooting is asked to contact EPD at 812-526-3500.
