Edinburgh police: 18-year-old shot in the head after fight breaks out at party
EDINBURGH, Ind. -- An investigation is underway after an 18-year-old was shot in the head in Edinburgh over the weekend.
Officers with the Edinburgh Police Department were called on Saturday around 2:30 a.m. to the 100 block of East Main Cross Street in response to a possible shooting in the area. EPD said officers arrived and found a victim, whom they identified as an 18-year-old male, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
EPD said the shooting victim was transported to Methodist Hospital, where he was released shortly after receiving medical treatment.
Detectives believe the shooting stemmed from a fight that broke out during a party that was being held at a residence in the area. EPD said the victim had attempted to leave the scene as tensions began to escalate. Preliminary information indicates that the 18-year-old was shot while he was driving his car away from the area. No other injuries were reported.
As of this article's publication, police have not detained any suspects.
