Fans flood downtown Indianapolis streets during Pacers' drive-through merchandise giveaway

INDIANAPOLIS - An Indiana Pacers' drive-through merchandise giveaway backed up traffic throughout downtown Indianapolis Wednesday evening.
During the event - which was slated to run from 4-7 p.m. - fans could drive down Pennsylvania Street near the Pacers team store to obtain merchandise bags. Inside the bags were "Yes 'Cers" t-shirts, rally towels, sunglasses and placards.
Before the event, the Pacers indicated that they had approximately 5,000 merchandise bags prepared to distribute. Fans flooded Pennsylvania Street and the roads around it for a chance to get the bags.
Before the giveaway, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department published a post on X urging divers to expect delays and listen to officers' instructions.
In a second post on X, IMPD urged motorists not participating in the event to avoid the area. The agency encouraged drivers in line for the giveaway to "pack (their) patience."
Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Thunder and Pacers will begin Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City. More information on this year's NBA Finals schedule is available here.
