(WXIN/WTTV) - Caitlin Clark will not participate in the Indiana Fever's final game ahead of WNBA All-Star weekend in downtown Indianapolis due to a right groin injury.
The Fever announced around 5 p.m. Wednesday that Clark will not be playing in their 7:30 p.m. outing against the New York Liberty. Clark left the Fever's game on Tuesday night with under a minute left, appearing to grab her groin area in pain. The Fever said she injured her right groin.
While Indiana ended up winning 85-77 against the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday, the victory was undercut by the injury to their All-Star point guard.
"No update. Just felt a little something in her groin," Fever coach Stephanie White said Tuesday. "We'll get it evaluated and see what happens from there."
On Wednesday, team officials made the decision to sit Clark out for their final game before going into All-Star Weekend. No other information was immediately provided, and Clark's media availability in New York was cancelled.
Despite entering the WNBA being viewed as reliable and durable, Clark has already missed 10 games for the Fever this season.
Last year's WNBA Rookie of the Year, Clark suffered a quad strain on May 24 against the Liberty and was out for five games. She returned on June 14 and played in five games before suffering a left groin injury that kept her out for four contests and the Commissioner's Cup final.
The Fever and WNBA announced on Tuesday that, despite injuries, Clark was expected to compete in the All-Star Weekend 3-point contest on Friday. However, it is no longer clear if this is still the case. It is also unclear if Clark, an All-Star Game captain, will participate in the game itself on Saturday.
