Fire destroys garage, damages duplex in Lebanon

LEBANON, Ind. - A garage was destroyed during a fire in Lebanon on Tuesday night.

According to a Lebanon Fire Department Facebook post, the Lebanon, Center Township and Whitestown fire departments were called to the 3600 block of Diane Lane in Lebanon around 4:57 p.m. to investigate a structure fire.

Local police officers made it to the area before fire personnel arrived at the scene. Law enforcement confirmed a garage and nearby duplex were on fire.

When firefighters made it to the scene, they attempted to enter the duplex and conduct a search. Crews quickly discovered that the overall structural integrity of the duplex was poor, as there was a hole in its floor.

As the firefighters continued to work, they made contact with the duplex's owner, who confirmed the structure was unoccupied. Once they learned the duplex was unoccupied, crews began defensive operations.

Fire officials brought the blaze under control at 5:43 p.m., nearly an hour after they first arrived at the scene. Even after the fire was under control, crews continued their work, completing an overhaul of the structures and ensuring no hot spots were left.

LFD personnel conducted an investigation to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Investigators ultimately concluded that the fire was accidentally caused when an unattended open burn spread to the garage.
