Get ready for more sun, better conditions for Indy 500 weekend in central Indiana

This May, clouds have dominated our skies. Luckily, Friday for Carb Day is seeing clouds slowly but surely exit our skies as high pressure settles in. All of this is happening after a downright chilly start to our Friday. Many spots saw some patchy frost thanks to lows in the upper 30s to near 40°.
Per the great wording of our colleagues at National Weather Service Indianapolis, "Mornings may start cool in the 40s, but temperatures rev up during the afternoons to the upper 60s." We couldn't have said it better ourselves for Race Day Weekend! The weather for the Parade and Legends Day looks great with mostly sunny skies. This will be the warmest of the pair. Thanks to a weathermaker missing us just southwest Race Day Sunday, we'll see an uptick in clouds but remain rain-free for the race.
Areas in southwest central Indiana could see some showers later on but the coverage looks to be 20-30%. It will be the coolest Indianapolis 500 Race Day in 12 years. 21 Race Days have had highs in the 60s going back to 1911.
The holiday weekend overall will have slightly below normal temperatures. It's entirely possible all three days of Memorial Day weekend may not hit 70° for a high temperature. If this happens, it will be the first time since the holiday weekend in 1968. Slight improvements come down the line starting late next week into next weekend.
