Grant County Sheriff's Office searching for man who allegedly led deputies on chase

GRANT COUNTY, Ind. - The Grant County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man who allegedly led its deputies on a chase.

According to a press release, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Interstate 69 near mile marker 264 around 10 p.m. Tuesday. During the traffic stop, a passenger in the suspect vehicle police tried to pull over forcibly removed the driver of the suspect vehicle, got behind the wheel and fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

GCSO indicated that the suspect vehicle reached speeds of 97 mph during the pursuit. The driver also traversed a portion of State Road 18 before the chase ultimately ended in Gas City.

The sheriff's office reported that the chase ended when the driver of the suspect vehicle ran over stop sticks law enforcement deployed.

Once the suspect vehicle was disabled, its driver ran into a home located on South G Street in Gas City. Police established a perimeter in the area and called a K-9 unit to the scene.

Law enforcement later searched the home the driver of the suspect vehicle had run into. Police ultimately determined the suspect vehicle's driver had exited the home via its back door before they established a perimeter.

Police believe the driver of the suspect vehicle is Brayton Tedder. GCSO did not provide any of Tedder's identifying characteristics like age, height and weight in their press release.

The sheriff's office did, however, provide a photo of Tedder:

Police indicated that Tedder has two active felony warrants out for his arrest. The charges attached to the warrants are failure to register as a sex or violent offender with a prior conviction - a Level 5 Felony - and unlawful entry by a serious sex offender, a Level 6 Felony.

GCSO has confirmed that its deputies searched the vehicle Tedder allegedly used during the police chase. Deputies reportedly located methamphetamine, a syringe, a meth pipe, a torn baggy with residue on it and a straw with a white powdery substance in it.

Police secured the items they found in the car and stored them as evidence. GCSO is planning to forward additional charges related to Tuesday night's police chase to the Grant County Prosecutor's Office for review.

GCSO is encouraging those with information on Tedder's whereabouts to call (765) 668-8168 or (765) 662-TIPS.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
