INDIANAPOLIS - WNBA All-Star Weekend is almost here-and it'll be Freddy Fever's time to shine.
The Fever's mascot will take on a big role in welcoming fans to Indianapolis. You'll find him at multiple events throughout the city to get fans excited for the game and the many activities surrounding it. This includes WNBA Live at the Indiana Convention Center.
Fever fans are familiar with the excitable mascot, who brings unique energy and dance moves to Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
"It is so crazy and fun working with Freddy Fever," said Jamie Russell, associate director of game operations for the Fever. "I mean, from day to day, you never know what you are going to get! Whether he is going to come rolling in on roller skates, honking horns, whatever he is doing, he is always a load of fun and keeps us on our toes."
While there's no debate about Freddy's importance to the gameday experience, there is considerable debate over what exactly he is.
A monster? A made-up creature? An alien? No one seems to know-but the team said each fan may have their own unique idea of what he is.
"What is Freddy?" Russell said. "I would say that's up to one's imagination. To us he is the big Fever fan, but everyone has their own idea of what Freddy actually is and I can't say there is a specific thing we can pinpoint. He is just a lovable, lovable mascot."
But there is one thing that will never change about Freddy Fever. No matter what he is, he will always be there for the fans.
"He is one of those people that just wants to take it all in, be there for the fans, be there for the kids, and he is an absolute joy to be around," Russell said. "I mean, he can take someone's day who is having not so great of a day and just show up and they're just super happy. It's just awesome to see!"
