INDIANAPOLIS - If anyone ends up in the Mass Ave neighborhood, there is a pretty good chance they will see Tamika Catchings, yes, the WNBA champion and Hall of Famer.
Although Catchings herself will likely not be there, but a building-sized mural that encompasses Catchings' legacy is staring down on the city.
"The first time that they even said they were even gonna do the mural, I was like 'wait, of me, like why would we want that? '" Catchings said.
The mural was dedicated to Catchings on Saturday evening, but the process of creating began long before.
Nate Baranowski was chosen as the artist to design this mural. Baranowski was chosen out of four finalists to create the piece.
"All of them were great in their own way, but with Nate, he was able to capture everything, capture every single phase of my life," Catchings said.
Baranowski grew up always loving art; in this specific piece, he aimed to showcase Catchings for the "amazing person that she is."
He strived to encapsulate Catchings' spirit and the different aspects of her life.
"I hope people see the energy and the joy of Tamika Catchings' life." Baranowski said, "I hope they appreciate her more and more as they get to see this art and I hope people smile when they get to look at the art."
