
INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Fire Department crews rescued a family of four from an apartment fire on Friday night.
In a Facebook post, IFD indicated that its units responded the 4100 block of Mission Drive on the northwest side of Indianapolis around 7:21 p.m. The Speedway and Pike Township fire departments also responded to the scene after dispatchers received multiple 911 calls about a fire in the area.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters located smoke and flames emanating from a vacant apartment on the bottom floor of a structure. During the incident, firefighters rescued a family of four that was trapped on a second-story balcony.
IFD confirmed that crews brought the apartment fire under control in 20 minutes. IFD's victims assistance unit is helping the apartment complex's management team find shelter for displaced residents.
IFD fire investigators are examining the incident. Neighbors told IFD squatters routinely visit the unit the fire originated in.
