INDIANAPOLIS - Crews rescued a kayaker who was stranded in the White River of the south side of Indianapolis Sunday night.
In a Facebook post, IFD indicated that one of its water rescue teams was dispatched to a portion of the White River located near the intersection of Sandhurst Drive and Newhart Street around 9:48 p.m. Soon after they arrived at the scene, crews rescued a woman who had been clinging to a tree branch for more than half an hour.

Upon speaking with the woman's family, IFD crews learned the kayaker and her family had been on the water since 1 p.m. The woman's kayak flipped and left her stranded along the White River around 8:30 p.m.
Before the kayaker's family members called 911, they attempted to help her to safety. After some unsuccessful attempts to assist the kayaker, the family requested assistance from first responders.
IFD reported that its crews initially had some difficulty finding the kayaker, though they were ultimately able to locate her with help from one of her family members who had access to her location via a mobile app.
IFD confirmed the kayaker was not injured during the incident. The fire department terminated incident command around 10:50 p.m.
