
INDIANAPOLIS -- A 30-year-old man was taken into custody after a shooting that occurred on the near east side earlier this month.
According to officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Tyler Grippaldi has been charged with one count of aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony, as well as a misdemeanor count of resisting law enforcement.
Just before 11 a.m. on April 17, officers with the department's southeast district were called to the 400 block of S. Oakland Avenue on reports of a shooting. IMPD officials said when they arrived at the scene, they located a man who was reportedly shot. He was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
As part of a preliminary investigation into the shooting, the department said that the alleged suspect reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived. The crime scene, as well as evidence, was reportedly located in the alleyway.
IMPD officials said that officers who "regularly work in the area" reportedly knew of a previous interaction between the man who was shot and the suspect. After speaking with members of the community and watching surveillance footage from the area. IMPD identified the suspect as Grippaldi.
On April 18, officers spotted Grippaldi in the 300 block of S. Oxford Street. After a "short foot pursuit," Grippaldi was arrested. Officials said that Grippaldi was reportedly asked about Thursday morning's shooting but "he ultimately declined" to talk about it.
According to court documents, Grippaldi's jury trial is scheduled for June 16 in Marion County. The court set Grippaldi's bond at a $40,000 personal recognizance bond.
