INDIANAPOLIS -- Officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a reported murder-suicide that occurred Monday evening on the north side of Indianapolis.
According to IMPD, officers from the department's north district responded to the 9200 block of Vassar Lane at around 8:15 p.m. on Monday. Initially, it was reported as a death investigation.
When officers arrived, they reportedly located a woman and a man inside a home who were both shot. IMPD said that both were pronounced dead on the scene by Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services officials.
"Currently, detectives believe this to be a murder-suicide," the department said. "A firearm was located on scene and recovered as evidence."
This incident continues to be under investigation by the department's homicide unit. The Marion County Coroner's Office will determine the manner and cause of death, and will release the names of each of the decedents once next-of-kin notification has been made.
