INDIANAPOLIS - A man died after being shot during a disturbance on the east side early Monday morning.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched around 3:40 a.m. to the 3500 block of North Butler Avenue for a shots fired call.
While on their way, police received an additional call that a person had been shot in the vicinity.
Officers arrived to find a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in "very critical condition," according to IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer.
The man was pronounced dead at the hospital just before 4:30 a.m., Weilhammer said.
The initial investigation found a disturbance inside a residence led to gunfire. Witnesses at the scene couldn't provide immediate details, Weilhammer said, because they were in distress.
Police were getting a warrant to go inside the home to look for additional evidence. Homicide detectives planned to conduct additional interviews.
Weilhammer didn't have information about a suspect or suspects. He urged anyone with information to contact IMPD at (317) 327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS (8477).
The shooting remains under investigation.
