IMPD investigating after $175,000+ worth of vases, markers stolen from cemetery
INDIANAPOLIS -- Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a reported theft at a cemetery on the near southeast side of more than $175,000 worth of vases and markers.
According to a police report issued by the department, officers were called to the New Crown Cemetery in the 2100 block of Churchman Avenue at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
When officers arrived, the complainant told IMPD that 246 solid bronze vases were reportedly taken from headstones throughout the cemetery. The report states that the total value of the vases was $171,000.
The complainant also told the IMPD officers that two bronze markers, valued at $5,000, were also reportedly taken from the cemetery. The report states that the two markers were 12X24X4 and included names and dates of births on them.
