INDIANAPOLIS - An Indianapolis police officer has been arrested for harassing his ex-wife.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Nicholas Cauley was arrested on Friday on preliminary counts of official misconduct, a Level 6 felony, and harassment, a Class B misdemeanor.
Cauley is a nine-year officer of IMPD and was serving in the North District. He reportedly was repeatedly contacting his ex-wife despite her numerous attempts to request that he stop.
Police stated that he drove to his ex-wife's place of employment while on duty and in his police vehicle. Additionally, he used his authority as a police officer to look up her license plate information.
"The trust our community places in us is built on accountability and integrity. When any officer violates that trust, it's our duty to act quickly and transparently," said IMPD Chief Chris Bailey. "We are committed to working closely with the prosecutor to ensure this case is investigated appropriately."
Police transported Cauley to the Adult Detention Center for booking following his arrest. IMPD has placed him on administrative leave pending a review by the chief of police.
His police-issued equipment has also been collected, and his authority as a law enforcement officer has been suspended, police stated.
Court records do not show any charges officially filed against Cauley at the time of publishing. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will determine final charging decisions.
