IMPD: Overnight fire at Broad Ripple Park being investigated as arson

INDIANAPOLIS -- Law enforcement is investigating after a building was reportedly intentionally set on fire early Tuesday morning in Broad Ripple Park.

According to a police report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the building, located at 1610 Broad Ripple Avenue, on a report of a fire. The report reads that the fire impacted an auxiliary building in the park, valued at around $400,000.

In a statement from Indy Parks and Recreation, officials confirmed that it was one of their buildings, a structure near the park's playroom that houses summer camp materials and restrooms. Officials allege there was a break-in overnight, which triggered an alarm.

Indy Parks officials said that IMPD responded to the alarm, but the person reportedly fled. The department then alleges that the person returned to the building and set it on fire.

The statement said they do not expect park services to be impacted. Indy Parks and Recreation officials are assessing damage on Tuesday and determining the impact on summer camps.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
