INDIANAPOLIS --- An Indianapolis man has been arrested on a preliminary charge of attempted murder after a reported fight in downtown Indianapolis on Monday afternoon.
According to officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers with IMPD's downtown district responded to the 700 block of E Market Street on a report of a fight with a weapon at around 5:21 p.m. on Monday.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found an unconscious man in the middle of the street. The department said that officers provided CPR to the man until EMS arrived. The man was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The department said that the suspect, later identified as 38-year-old Cortney Coleman, reportedly ran from the area before officers arrived. Witnesses gave a description of Coleman to the officers, who then began to search the area.
Coleman was taken into custody in the 500 block of E Market Street, the department said, on one preliminary count of attempted murder, a Level 1 felony.
The department said that this incident remains under investigation, stating that detectives canvassed the area for surveillance footage and gathered witness information and statements. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make the final charging decision in this case.
